Acid Reflux a deadly condition or rumour
Acid reflux can also be called gastro esophageal reflux or more commonly known as GERD is a disease that affects children, adults and even infants but has a high susceptibility to women who are pregnant, those who are smokers, and those people who sleeps right after eating without even resting for a bit.Certain signs that are indications of acid reflux are: difficulty in breathing, chest congestion, mild to severe heartburn or hoarseness are some serious signs. Smokers or after a heavy meal or after having two alcoholic drinks acid reflux can show its dirty side over the sufferers.
The primary cause of acid reflux is a weak or relaxed esophageal sphincter. In some instances, an increase in the production of gastric acids can be the cause of the disease.Irritation of the esophagus because of the insufficient supply of gastric acid often leads to inflammation.
Other conditions that can elicit acid reflux are hiatus hernia, zollinger-elison syndrome, hypercalcemia, scleroderma and system sclerosis as well.
Smoking increases the risk of acquiring the disease rather than intake of alcohol, tea and other beverages as stated a while back which can minimally contribute to the disease.Smoking is the main factor causing the acid reflux disease. Chronic smokers who have been smoking for more than 20 years are 70% susceptible to GERD compare to those non-smokers. The symptoms of people who already developed GERD are getting worse with each passing day.
Research also shows that large amounts of salt are equivalent to regular smokers in terms of risk in acquiring the said disease.
Acid reflux treatment should be easily carried out once the symptoms are identified by the individual himself. There are number of ways on how to treat this disease. Some management includes drugs such as antacid, modification of diet, elevation of the head when lying down, or the last resort will be surgery. Acid reflux needs to be prevented rather than treated because of its capability to affect your every day life.
